When choosing toys for dogs playing in a swimming pool, it’s essential to consider safety, durability, and the dog’s enjoyment. Here are some of the best options:

  • Floating Toys: These are ideal as they won’t sink and are easy for the dog to spot and retrieve. Examples include floating rubber toys, water-safe frisbees, and floating balls.
  • Interactive Toys: Toys that encourage play and exercise, like floating tug ropes or toys that release treats, can be fun and stimulating for a dog.
  • Durable and Safe Materials: Ensure the toys are made from materials that are safe for dogs and can withstand constant exposure to water and the rigors of play. Avoid toys that could easily break and become choking hazards.
  • Size-Appropriate Toys: Choose toys that are appropriate for your dog’s size and bite strength to prevent choking and ensure they can comfortably carry the toy.
  • Bright Colors: Brightly colored toys are easier for dogs to see in the water, making the play more enjoyable and safer.
  • Water Launchers: These toys can throw balls or other floating toys far into the water, which is excellent for dogs that enjoy fetching and swimming.
  • Cooling Toys: Some toys can be frozen or stay cool, providing relief from the heat while playing in the pool.

Always supervise your dog while playing in the pool, and ensure they are comfortable and safe in the water. Regularly check the toys for signs of wear and tear and replace them when necessary.

Here is a list of the best toys that our dogs love for Playing In the swimming Pool

Swimming Pool Floating Bumper Toys: The second our boys see these toys come out, they know it is playtime! These brightly colored toys float and are easy to see in the pool. One good feature about this toy is that it has a rope on it. The rope makes it easier to get the toy back from an excited dog who doesn’t want to let it go. However, be aware that it is not a chew toy. After playing with your dog, you will want to put this toy away where the dogs cannot reach it.

Dog Throwing Stick Fetching Toy: This bright green toy is easy to see in the pool. It’s effortless to clean and is also perfect for a game of fetch, whether in the swimming pool or not.

Dog Float Raft For Swimming Pool: This raft has brought our crew tons of joy and laughter. Our dogs love to get in the raft and float around. Our boy Erney runs and jumps into the raft, sailing it across the pool. We always think he will puncture it as he is nearly 100 pounds flying through the air and landing in the raft. But we’ve had one since 2018, and it has survived all of his crazy jumping. We love this raft so much that we bought a second one. The large raft is for dogs 65 pounds and up. It also comes in a smaller size for dogs under 65 pounds.

Fun and Powerful Squirt Gun for Swimming Pool: Our boy Erney loves this toy! To be clear, it is NOT a dog toy, and we do NOT recommend shooting your dog in the face with a water gun. It is a great toy for getting your dog to chase a water stream. We like to shoot the water at the raft listed above and watch as Erney tries to catch the water by jumping into the raft. It’s a good time for all!

Amphibious Bumper Fetch and Float Dog Toy: We are big fans of Chuckit! Toys and this one is no exception. Unlike the previously mentioned bumper toys, these Chuckit! bumpers are made of a softer foam, rather than a hard plastic. These toys also come with an attached rope, making it easier to pick up and extract from an excited dog.

Coolaroo The Original Cooling Elevated Dog Bed: They like to lie on their Coolaroo beds after playing in the pool. These beds are elevated off the ground and help our boys dry off and keep cool. The Coolaroo is great for outdoor use as it is easy to clean. We take the hose to it, rinse it off, and it is clean. It’s also an eco-friendly option, which is always a bonus.

Outward Hound Granby Splash Orange Dog Life Jacket: When we first moved into a house with a pool, we purchased these life jackets for our dogs. It didn’t take long to realize that our guys are natural swimmers. After ensuring they knew the swimming pool exits and how to get out of the pool, we allowed them to swim without these life jackets. Some dogs may be better off keeping the life jacket on while swimming or lounging in the pool. These jackets are made of a ripstop material and are very durable. They also come with a handle at the top of the life jacket, making it easy to get your dog out of the water.

There you have it, a list of our top swimming pool toys for dogs. Summer will be here soon, and we look forward to returning to the water!

A no-stuffing toy is a dog toy that does not contain any stuffing or filling material inside. These toys are designed to be safer and more durable for dogs who like to chew or rip apart stuffed toys. Without the stuffing, there is less mess and a lower risk of the dog ingesting the material, which can be harmful.

These toys often come in various shapes and sizes, resembling animals or other playful designs, and can include features like squeakers, crinkles, or ropes to keep the dog engaged. They are particularly suitable for dogs who are heavy chewers or for pet owners who want to avoid the cleanup and potential hazards associated with traditional stuffed toys.

Choosing a Halloween costume for your dog can be fun and creative. The best choice often depends on your dog’s size, temperament, and preferences. Here are some ideas based on different categories:

Size-Based Suggestions:

  • Small Dogs: Tinkerbell, a mouse, a minion, or a sushi roll.
  • Medium Dogs: Ghostbuster, Scooby-Doo, a lion, or a pirate.
  • Large Dogs: Horse with a cowboy doll on the back, bear, or Superman.

Characters from recent movies or TV shows. For example, characters from “Stranger Things,” “Game of Thrones”, or “The Mandalorian” (Baby Yoda).

Classic Halloween Characters:

  • Ghost, skeleton, zombie, witch, or mummy.

Funny/Cute Themes:

  • A hot dog (especially fitting for Dachshunds), taco, pumpkin, or a pineapple.

Matching with Owner:

  • Consider a duo theme where both you and your dog match. For example:
  • Batman and Robin.
  • Harry Potter and Hedwig.
  • Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.

Based on Breed or Look:

  • A sheepdog could be a sheep.
  • A greyhound could be a racecar.
  • A bulldog could be a wrestler.
  • If your dog has a strong resemblance to a wolf, dress him as one.

Simple Accessories:

  • Consider more straightforward accessories like themed bandanas, hats, or collars if your dog prefers wearing only some costumes.

Tips:

  • Comfort & Safety: Ensure the costume doesn’t restrict movement, hearing, or the ability to breathe or bark. Avoid small, dangling pieces that a dog can chew off and ingest.
  • Familiarization: Let your dog get used to the costume before Halloween. Start with short periods wearing it and increase the time gradually, offering treats and praise.
  • Weather: Ensure the costume is appropriate for the weather — not too hot or cold.
  • Supervision: Always supervise your dog while they’re wearing a costume.

Remember, the costume should be fun for both you and your dog. If your dog shows signs of distress or discomfort, it might be best to forgo a costume and opt for a festive collar or bandana.

  • Lion Mane: Transform your dog into the king of the jungle with a furry lion mane. It’s especially fitting for larger breeds, but smaller versions are available for tinier pups.
  • Superhero Costumes: Choices include classics like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, and Captain America.
  • Dinosaur Costumes: Turn your pup into a ferocious (or not-so-ferocious) T-Rex or Triceratops.
  • Star Wars Costumes: Let your dog join the Star Wars universe as Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Yoda, or even an Ewok.
  • Pirate Costume: Make your dog the fearsome captain of the Seven Seas with a cute pirate outfit.
  • Bumblebee or Ladybug: Adorable and classic, these simple costumes suit many dog breeds and sizes.
  • Ghostbusters: With a mini jumpsuit and a “proton pack,” your dog can be ready to chase down any ghostly apparitions.
  • UPS Delivery Driver: A fun and cute outfit, especially if your dog gets super excited whenever the delivery person comes to the door.
  • Animals: Turn your dog into another animal, with costumes like a shark, monkey, giraffe, or bear.
  • Food Items: Hot dogs, tacos, sushi, and pumpkin pie costumes are always a hit and get plenty of laughs.

When choosing a costume for your dog:

  • Ensure it’s the right size. Check the size chart and, if possible, measure your dog to ensure a proper fit.
  • Comfort is key. The costume shouldn’t restrict your dog’s movement, vision, or ability to breathe, bark, eat, or drink.
  • Look for costumes made of soft, non-irritating materials.
  • Read customer reviews for insights on sizing, material quality, and durability.
  • Always introduce the costume to your dog gradually. Reward your dog with treats and praise to make the experience positive.
  • Never leave a costumed dog unsupervised. Your dog might try to chew or wriggle out of the outfit, which could be a safety hazard.

Remember that while many dogs tolerate or even enjoy wearing costumes, it’s essential to prioritize their comfort and safety above all else. If your dog appears stressed or uncomfortable, skip the costume and opt for a simple bandana or collar accessory.

Dressing up your dog in costumes can be a fun and adorable activity, especially during Halloween or other festive occasions. However, ensuring the dog is comfortable and safe in any outfit is essential. Here are some popular dog costume ideas and a few tips to consider:

Famous Dog Costume Ideas:

  • Superhero Costumes: Transform your dog into Superman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, or Batman.
  • Classic Monsters: Costumes like Dracula, mummies, werewolves, or Frankenstein’s monster.
  • Fairytale Characters: Think of characters like Little Red Riding Hood, a princess, or even a dragon.
  • Animal Costumes: Dress your dog as another animal, like a lion, tiger, bear, or even a shark.
  • Occupations: Costumes that make your dog look like a firefighter, police officer, doctor, or astronaut.
  • Food-themed: Hot dogs, tacos, pizza, or even a bunch of grapes.
  • Pop Culture Icons: Dress your dog as characters from popular movies, shows, or even memes.
  • Seasonal Themes: For Christmas, your dog could be Santa Claus, an elf, or a reindeer. For Easter, maybe a bunny.
  • Pirates: A popular choice with a little pirate hat and perhaps a faux parrot on their back.
  • Sports: Jerseys and gear from your favorite sports team.

Tips for Dressing Your Dog:

  • Comfort: Ensure the costume isn’t too tight or restrictive. Your dog should be able to move, breathe, bark, and relieve themselves without any obstruction.
  • Safety: Avoid costumes with small parts that dogs can chew off and ingest. Also, ensure the costume doesn’t obstruct your dog’s vision, which can be disorienting and scary.
  • Temperature: Ensure the costume is appropriate for the weather. A thick costume on a warm day can cause overheating.
  • Introduce Gradually: Let your dog get used to the costume. Start by laying it out and letting your dog sniff it. Offer treats and praise. Put part of the costume on them briefly, then gradually increase the time as they become more comfortable.
  • Stay Supervised: Always supervise your dog while in a costume to ensure they don’t get tangled, try to eat it, or experience any distress.
  • Know Your Dog: Some dogs love dressing up, while others don’t. Respect your dog’s feelings. If they seem distressed, it’s best to ditch the costume.

Remember, the idea is to have fun and get some cute photos, but your dog’s comfort and safety should always be the top priority. If a full costume isn’t working, sometimes a simple themed bandana or collar can be just as festive.

Saint Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17th, is a cultural and religious holiday commemorating Saint Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. Over the years, it has evolved into a worldwide celebration of Irish culture, featuring parades, wearing green, and other festive activities. Many dog owners and enthusiasts like to incorporate their pets into these celebrations.

Ideas for fun with your dog:

Dressing Up

Many owners like to dress their dogs in festive attire. The dress-up can range from simple green bandanas or bows to full costumes with leprechaun hats and faux beards.

Parades

Some cities and towns have pet-friendly Saint Patrick’s Day parades where dogs can march alongside their owners. Often, these pups are dressed in their finest Irish-inspired gear.

Themed Toys

Pet stores might offer Saint Patrick’s Day-themed toys, such as green squeaky toys or toys shaped like shamrocks or pots of gold.

Dog Parties

Some dog owners host Saint Patrick’s Day-themed playdates or parties for their pets and friends. Activities might include treasure hunts for treats or festive agility courses.

Themed Treats

Owners can make or buy Saint Patrick’s Day-themed treats for their dogs—for instance, green-tinted dog biscuits (using natural food coloring or spinach juice) or shamrock-shaped cookies. Always ensure any ingredients or decorations are safe for canine consumption.

Photo Sessions

Many dog owners enjoy staging themed photo sessions with their pets, using props like pots of gold, rainbows, or leprechaun hats. These photos often get shared on social media or sent as greeting cards.

Safety Considerations:

While involving dogs in Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations can be fun, it’s crucial to ensure their safety and comfort:

Costumes

Ensure any costume or attire does not restrict movement, breathing, or vision. Always supervise a dressed-up dog to prevent your dog from chewing or getting tangled in their outfits.

Food and Drink

Saint Patrick’s Day often involves alcoholic beverages like beer, especially green beer. Alcohol is toxic to dogs, so ensure they cannot access any drinks. Similarly, only feed them human food after verifying its safety.

Crowds

If taking your dog to a parade or crowded area, ensure they are comfortable with large groups and loud noises. Always have them on a leash and be vigilant about their well-being.

Decorations:

If using decorations for parties or photo sessions, ensure they are not small enough to be swallowed or made of materials that could be harmful if chewed.

By considering these points, dog owners can enjoy a festive and fun Saint Patrick’s Day with their four-legged friends!

Dogs like to party too! Please check out this video of our boy Griffin on Saint Patrick’s Day! No, we did not give him any Jameson. Please don’t give your dogs whiskey or any other alcoholic beverages.
